Do you need a license to hire a boat in the Canary Islands?

Whether you need a license to hire a boat in the Canary Islands, will depend on what type of boat you are renting. There are two cases when a license will be required. Firstly, if you hire a motorboat with more than 15 horsepower and more than 4 meters in length. Secondly, if you hire a sailboat over 5 meters in size. 

If you do not have enough experience or want a stress-free vacation, most boats come with the option to have a skipper.
