Stromboli, Panarea and Salina are important destinations. A start from Palermo with a city tour before and after the sailing trip is recommended. The relaxed and inexpensive journey by (new) train to Capo d'Orlando is also recommended. By taxi or shuttle you would pay up to €400 per trip. By train it is only €14 per person. There are even taxis that cooperate with the port and take sailors to and from the port for €5 per person.

Guiseppe and Piera were amazing hosts. The boat was beautiful, comfortable and perfectly sized for six of us and we had a phenomenal day exploring the waters around Palermo. We were even treated to some home made limoncello and some snacks- 5 stars would highly recommend to anyone looking for a day trip. Grazie mille Guiseppe and Piera!

We had the most incredible boat trip with Paolo and Alessio. From start to finish, the service was truly exceptional and they went above and beyond to make the experience unforgettable. They made us feel relaxed and looked after the entire time. The boat trip itself was absolutely beautiful, but what really made it special was the hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble, and they consistently exceeded our expectations in every way. I honestly cannot recommend Paolo and his family highly enough. If you are considering booking with them, do not hesitate — it was one of the highlights of our trip and an experience we will remember for a very long time.

For an authentic day along the Sicilian coast, I highly recommend Fabrizio his gorgeous sailboat. Going a bit outside Palermo for the experience was well worth it + the prepared lunch on board was perfect. Easily the highlight of our trip - thanks Fabrizio!

Lovely experience. Took boat for 4 hours. We took a solo boat which meant we drove it. This was nice as it was private. They offered a speaker for music but we had one. Your charged for petrol at end per Km. They track you by GPS so it's exact to what you drive. It worked out at 74 euro which I though was cheaper than expected but we did stop for a while as we found the dolphins so we watched them which was a beautiful experience. 4 hours might be a little too long for some but it was worth the experience

We had the best time with Raffaele. He is extremely nice, a very trustworthy captain and went out of his way to ensure we had a great time. His restaurant recommendation was spot on and he was genuinely a pleasure to be around. I will be certainly getting back in touch next time we come to the Eolian Islands! Thank so so much, Raffaele!

Giuseppe and Piera hosted a fantastic day on their boat for our family of 4. They are professional, friendly and generous, and provided delicious snacks and drinks throughout the day. A day or half day on their boat is the perfect way to see the Palermo coastline and enjoy swimming and snorkelling. Highly recommended. Grazie Giuseppe and Piera!

Renting a Boat in Sicily

Being the largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily is a place with a very distinct history and culture. Due to its location on the map, Sicily has experienced very unique periods in time that have beautifully shaped the island. Just like its history and people, Sicily offers some of the most diverse landscapes and sights.

The beautiful coastlines of Sicily make it a prime location to hire a boat and explore the island endlessly. It became a very popular sailing destination as there are multiple different itineraries and sailing routes available around the beautiful cities of the island.

Choose from a huge selection of boats in Sicily and set sail to explore this stunning Mediterranean island and discover the cities from a different perspective from the sea. Sicily is a perfect destination for various travellers such as families, groups of friends or couples.

How much does it cost to hire a boat in Sicily?

The cost of renting a boat in Sicily is changing throughout the year. When there is a high season on the island from June to August, the prices are generally higher. If you want to hire a yacht in Sicily expect to pay around 150€/day for a sailboat and around 300 €/day for a catamaran. These prices can change depending on the city you visit in Sicily. Hire a boat in Catania and explore the rich coastlines of the island.

If you rather hire a motor boat for a day, the prices depend on the size and type of boat you rent. There is a huge selection of boats available in various price ranges, so the choice is yours which is suitable for you. We recommend planning your holiday activities, whether you want to try out water sports or go on an adventure along the coast to discover hidden spots. You will certainly find the most ideal boat for your dream holiday in Sicily.

Boat availability in Sicily

Sicily offers a wide range of boats available to hire both on the north and the south side of the island too. Depending on which part of the island you want to discover, you will have a huge selection to choose from.

The best season for a yacht hire is generally from the end of April to the end of October. The climate is usually very enjoyable with winters not falling below 10 degrees and hot summer days normally cooled by the nice sea breeze. Expect to find most of the tourists during summer, but keep in mind that the sailing conditions are excellent in spring and in autumn too.

We recommend booking a few months in advance if you want to hire a yacht and a few weeks for day boats. In this case, you can guarantee to find the most suitable boat for your dream holiday in Sicily.

Do I need a licence to hire a yacht in Sicily?

If you hire a boat in Sicily, keep in mind that you might need to have a valid boating license to present. If you hire a sailboat that is beyond 6 miles from the shelter, it is mandatory to have a license. Otherwise, there is no need to worry, because you can hire without too. However, if you’d like to hire a motorboat, you can only hire without a valid license if the power of the boat is less than 40hp. If it’s beyond, you will be asked to present your license.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a boating license and you still want to hire a boat, because there is an option to hire a skipper. There are many benefits of a skipper, not just their technical expertise in driving a boat. They are local people that know the area, which means that they can navigate you to secret spots that are hidden from tourists. It can highly increase your adventures and create an unforgettable holiday.

Overview of Sicily

Sicily is an island in the centre of the Mediterranean sea and is located in southern Italy. Sicily is rich in stunning cities, beautiful landmarks across the island and one of the best beaches in Europe. The combination of nature, history, culture and gastronomy makes it an ideal holiday destination. One of the most well-known landmarks on the island is the volcano Etna, which is still active to this day.

When sailing, there are bays and ports throughout the island that are highly recommended. The north of the island offers very different experiences from that of its counterpart. The more common voyage is that of the north, stopping at Palermo and the historical cities of Cefalu and Portarosa. Starting your yacht hire from Palermo is the most common port of destination. From here, it is a very short voyage to the Aeolian Islands, which presents an incredible, distinct world. If you're looking for a longer holiday, you can hire a catamaran in Sicily.

In the south of the island, make it a point to stop and see the Greek ruins in Syracuse. What was one of the largest cities in the ancient world, is now one of the greatest archaeological sites in Sicily. Sicily is a land full of wonderful landscapes and destinations. The number of islands and the diversity presented makes it best to see the island by boat. On the southwest coast, you'll also be able to sail to Trapani. Hire a motorboat or sailboat and make sure to experience as much Sicily as possible. You can also go to the western part of Sicily, hire a boat in Milazzo and sail around the coast to Taormina. You could also start south by hiring a boat in Syracuse.
